Welcome to the website of The Egham Band. We are a friendly community
brass band based in Egham, west Surrey, near London, with a history
stretching back over a hundred years. Our busy engagement list includes
community events such as Remembrance Sunday and local carnivals,
along with concerts with guest soloists, recently including Roger
Webster, principal cornet of the Grimethorpe Colliery Band, and
famous tuba soloist Steve Sykes. We are also available for private
or corporate events.
March 2010 has seen the band progress to new heights, competing in the
London and Southern Counties Regional Qualifiers for the First Section and
achieving the best ever contest result in our 115-year history. MD Gareth Green was
delighted with the band's controlled performance of "A Moorside Suite" by Gustav
Holst, which led to third place and a magnificent trophy, the Perpetual Challenge Cup.
Third place also means the band has qualified to represent the region at the
National Finals, held in Harrogate in September, this only three years after
appearing there in the second section. Due to a band member having to move away for work,
we are now looking to recruit an extra Eb or Bb bass player to complete our band for Harrogate.
The summer of 2010 marks the formation of a new band for learners in Surrey, in the form of
the Egham Training Band. This group will be led by our flugelhorn player, and
retired principal cornet of The Welsh Guards, Stewart Gaudion, with input from other band members
and local tutors within the Surrey area. Rehearsals have now started with members from local schools
and we are looking to grow the band further. Please get in touch if you or your child are interested in joining.
Egham Junior Brass is also part of organisation and has been ably led by
George O'Mara for the past ten years. Egham Junior Brass now has over forty members and puts on
its own events.
One of our recent events saw us playing for the Christmas Reindeer
Parade in Windsor in front of over 1000 people:
